An Architectural Research Lab in an old industrial area in Jing’an District, Shanghai, PRC, in speculation of a development of a creative cluster.
The project aims to connect the existing creative industrial buildings
which were transformed from factories, onto the ones which had not been transformed.
A Series of Walls are created to enforce the directionality of the building.
Circulation between rooms are all along the direction of the building, including staircases. The wall positions are based on the existing buildings on the site.
The walls are then transformed into different transparencies of panels which create different layers of depth throughout the building. Natural light is allowed on top of the panels.
